Merle’s Wish Annual Football Tournament 2025 – A Day to Remember
On Sunday 31st August 2025, the community once again came together for the annual Merle’s Wish Football Tournament – a day filled with friendship, competition, and heartfelt remembrance. This special event is held every year in loving memory of Merle, raising much-needed funds for the registered charity Merle’s Wish, which continues to support those bravely battling cancer alone – a cause that Merle cared for deeply.
This year’s tournament was truly unforgettable, with nine teams taking part and the weather kindly holding off until the very final whistle. From the first kick-off to the nail-biting finals, the atmosphere was one of joy, determination, and unity.
The Tournament Highlights
It was one of the closest tournaments yet. The Merle’s Wish team fought valiantly, only to narrowly miss out on the final after a tense penalty shootout against The Ringers.
In the Merle’s Wish Trophy, there was a new name in the spotlight – Pompey MASSIVE. With some fresh additions, they made their way to the final for the very first time, but it was The Ringers who clinched victory. Incredibly, The Ringers had only entered the tournament 24 hours earlier, proving that sometimes the last-minute chances turn into the greatest triumphs!

Over in the Consolation Cup, United Legends once again made it to the final but were edged out by DY10, who claimed the cup with a strong performance.

The Auction, Raffle & Generosity
